OK… Ok… I want to you to put your jealousy aside for a minute or two. Yes, I have been named a “celebrity” judge for the inaugural Friendly Fires Wings and Burgers competitions, but I have to tell you, it’s actually a pretty tough job. I mean, not only do I have to chat with competition-calibre grillers, but I have to actually try their products. Wings and burgers. Probably a dozen of each. It’s terrible really. Absolutely horrible.
Having been asked to judge similar competitions — including ribs — I can tell you that being a trained professional is an absolute requirement. Why, I’ve seen amateurs try to judge events like these and fall victim to fatigue, wooziness, and the least pretty meat-sweats you could possibly imagine. Which is why I’m taking this one for the team.
I’ve got your back, Peterborough.
OK, with that out of the way, here’s your opportunity to do some fine wing and burger tasting yourself: Come on down to 4th Annual Kawartha BBQ Competition this Saturday (July 25) in Peterborough. The event starts at 10am with live music. A charity BBQ will run between 11am and 3pm. Admission is absolutely free.
Think you’ve got the stuff to grill the “Best Burger In The Kawarthas” or “Best Wings in The Kawarthas?” Spots are still open for team entries. Call today! There are over $2,400 in BBQ prizes to award. Thanks to sponsors Primal Cuts and Napoleon Grills.
Hopefully I’ll see you there!
